Centrifugal Force Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the centrifugal force acting on an object.
F = m * v^2 / r
- Where F is the centrifugal force (Newtons)
- m is the mass (kg)
- v is the velocity
- r is the radius
In this equation the velocity is the tangential velocity, however the angular velocity can be used as well. Instead use the angular velocity and multiply it by the radius to calculate the tangential velocity.
A centrifugal force always acts perpendicular to the motion of an object. This force causes an acceleration, also known as an angular acceleration.
