Feed Efficiency Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the Feed Efficiency.
Efeed = WF / #A
- Where Efeed is the Feed Efficiency
- WF is the weight of feed ingested (lbs)
- #A is the number of animals exiting
How to Calculate Feed Efficiency?
The following two example problems outline how to calculate the Feed Efficiency.
Example Problem #1:
- First, determine the weight of feed ingested (lbs). In this example, the weight of feed ingested (lbs) is given as 500.
- Next, determine the number of animals exiting. For this problem, the number of animals exiting is given as 30.
- Finally, calculate the Feed Efficiency using the equation above:
Efeed = WF / #A
Inserting the values from above and solving the equation:
Efeed = 500 / 30 = 16.66
Example Problem #2:
Using the same process as above, first define the variables required by the formula. In this case, these values are:
weight of feed ingested (lbs) = 700
number of animals exiting = 100
Entering these values yields:
Efeed = 700 /100 = 7
