Enter the total feedlot revenue ($), the total feedlot costs ($), and the number of heads in feedlot into the calculator to determine the Feedlot Profit Per Head.

Feedlot Profit Per Head Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Feedlot Profit Per Head.

FP = (FR - FC) / H
  • Where FP is the Feedlot Profit Per Head ($/head)
  • FR is the total feedlot revenue ($)
  • FC is the total feedlot costs ($)
  • H is the number of heads in feedlot

How to Calculate Feedlot Profit Per Head?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Feedlot Profit Per Head.

Example Problem #1

  1. First, determine the total feedlot revenue ($). In this example, the total feedlot revenue ($) is given as 60 .
  2. Next, determine the total feedlot costs ($). For this problem, the total feedlot costs ($) is given as  20 .
  3. Next, determine the number of heads in feedlot. In this case, the number of heads in feedlot is found to be 10.
  4. Finally, calculate the Feedlot Profit Per Head using the formula above:

FP = (FR – FC) / #H

Inserting the values from above yields:

FP = (6000 – 200) / 10 = 580 ($/head)

Example Problem #2

The variables needed for this problem are provided below:

total feedlot revenue ($) = 1000

total feedlot costs ($) = 400

number of heads in feedlot = 50

Entering these values and solving gives:

FP = (1000 – 40) / 50= 19.2 ($/head)
