Enter the net force (N) and the net change in time (s) into the calculator to determine the Net Impulse.

Net Impulse Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Net Impulse.

Inet = Fnet * t
  • Where Inet is the Net Impulse (N-s)
  • Fnet is the net force (N)
  • t is the net change in time (s)

To calculate the net impulse, multiply the net force by the net change in time.

How to Calculate Net Impulse?

The following two example problems outline how to calculate the Net Impulse.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the net force (N). In this example, the net force (N) is given as 315.
  2. Next, determine the net change in time (s). For this problem, the net change in time (s) is given as 2.
  3. Finally, calculate the Net Impulse using the equation above:

Inet = Fnet * t

Inserting the values from above and solving the equation:

Inet = 315 * 2 = 630 (N-s)

Example Problem #2:

Using the same process as above, first define the variables required by the formula. In this case, these values are provided as the following:

net force (N) = 500

net change in time (s) = 20

Entering these values gives:

Inet = 500 * 20 = 10,000 (N-s)
