Net Impulse Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the Net Impulse.
Inet = Fnet * t
- Where Inet is the Net Impulse (N-s)
- Fnet is the net force (N)
- t is the net change in time (s)
How to Calculate Net Impulse?
The following two example problems outline how to calculate the Net Impulse.
Example Problem #1:
- First, determine the net force (N). In this example, the net force (N) is given as 315.
- Next, determine the net change in time (s). For this problem, the net change in time (s) is given as 2.
- Finally, calculate the Net Impulse using the equation above:
Inet = Fnet * t
Inserting the values from above and solving the equation:
Inet = 315 * 2 = 630 (N-s)
Example Problem #2:
Using the same process as above, first define the variables required by the formula. In this case, these values are provided as the following:
net force (N) = 500
net change in time (s) = 20
Entering these values gives:
Inet = 500 * 20 = 10,000 (N-s)
