Pellet Energy Formula
The following equation is used to calculate the Pellet Energy.
PE = 1/2*PM*PV^2
Variables:
- Where PE is the Pellet Energy (Joules)
- PM is the pellet mass (kg)
- PV is the pellet velocity (m/s)
How to Calculate Pellet Energy?
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed in order to calculate the Pellet Energy.
Example Problem #1:
- First, determine the pellet mass (kg). In this example, the pellet mass (kg) is measured to be 58.
- Next, determine the pellet velocity (m/s). For this problem, the pellet velocity (m/s) is calculated to be 94.
- Finally, calculate the Pellet Energy using the formula above:
PE = 1/2*PM*PV^2
Inserting the values from above and solving the equation with the imputed values gives:
PE = 1/2*58*94^2 = 256244 (Joules)
Example Problem #2:
Using the same process as example problem 1, we first define the needed variables outlined by the formula. In this case, the values are provide as:
pellet mass (kg) = 139
pellet velocity (m/s) = 10
Entering these values into the formula or calculator above gives us:
PE = 1/2*139*10^2 = 6950 (Joules)
