Enter the pellet mass (kg) and the pellet velocity (m/s) into the calculator to determine the Pellet Energy.

Pellet Energy Formula

The following equation is used to calculate the Pellet Energy.

PE = 1/2*PM*PV^2

Variables:

  • Where PE is the Pellet Energy (Joules)
  • PM is the pellet mass (kg)
  • PV is the pellet velocity (m/s)

To calculate the pellet energy, multiply the pellet mass by the pellet velocity squared, then divide by 2.

How to Calculate Pellet Energy?

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed in order to calculate the Pellet Energy.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the pellet mass (kg). In this example, the pellet mass (kg) is measured to be 58.
  2. Next, determine the pellet velocity (m/s). For this problem, the pellet velocity (m/s) is calculated to be 94.
  3. Finally, calculate the Pellet Energy using the formula above:

PE = 1/2*PM*PV^2

Inserting the values from above and solving the equation with the imputed values gives:

PE = 1/2*58*94^2 = 256244 (Joules)

Example Problem #2:

Using the same process as example problem 1, we first define the needed variables outlined by the formula. In this case, the values are provide as:

pellet mass (kg) = 139

pellet velocity (m/s) = 10

Entering these values into the formula or calculator above gives us:

PE = 1/2*139*10^2 = 6950 (Joules)
