Enter the total margin profit ($) and the total costs ($) into the Percent Margin Calculator. The calculator will evaluate and display the Percent Margin.

Percent Margin Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Percent Margin.

PM = MP / TC * 100
  • Where PM is the Percent Margin (%)
  • MP is the total margin profit ($)
  • TC is the total costs ($)

To calculate the percent margin, divide the margin profit by the costs, then multiply by 100.

How to Calculate Percent Margin?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Percent Margin.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the total margin profit ($).
    • The total margin profit ($) is given as: 56.
  2. Next, determine the total costs ($).
    • The total costs ($) is provided as: 150.
  3. Finally, calculate the Percent Margin using the equation above:

PM = MP / TC * 100

The values given above are inserted into the equation below and the solution is calculated:

PM = 56 / 150 * 100 = 37.33 (%)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

total margin profit ($) = 67

total costs ($) = 891

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator above.

PM = MP / TC * 100 = ?
