The following formula is used to calculate how many bales of pine straw are needed to cover an area. 

BPS = L * W / 37.5
  • Where BPS is the number of bales of pine straw
  • L is the length of the area to be covered (ft)
  • W is the width of the area to be covered (ft)

To calculate the pine straw needed, multiply the length and width of the area, then divide by 37.5

This formula assumes a standard 2-3 inches of depth of pine straw. If you are going to be covering the area in 5-6inches of pines straw, double the result from the formula above:
