Enter the scanning frequency and the number of horizontal lines into the Refresh Rate Calculator. The calculator will evaluate the Refresh Rate.

Refresh Rate Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Refresh Rate.

RFR = HF / (HL * 1.05)
  • Where RFR is the Refresh Rate (hz)
  • HF is the scanning frequency
  • HL is the number of horizontal lines

To calculate the refresh rate, divide the scanning frequency by the product of the number of horizontal lines times 1.05.

How to Calculate Refresh Rate?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Refresh Rate.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the scanning frequency.
    • The scanning frequency is given as: 96,000.
  2. Next, determine the number of horizontal lines.
    • The number of horizontal lines is provided as: 1024.
  3. Finally, calculate the Refresh Rate using the equation above:

RFR = HF / (HL * 1.05)

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

RFR = 96,000 / (1024 * 1.05) = 89.285 (hz)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

scanning frequency = 80,000

number of horizontal lines = 1000

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator..

RFR = HF / (HL * 1.05) = ?
