Seed Rate Formula
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Seed Rate.
SER = TPP * TWG * 100
- Where SER is the Seed Rate (kg/ha)
- TPP is the target plant population (p/m^2)
- TWG is the TGW (thousand gram weight) (g)
To calculate the seed rate, multiply the target plant population the thousand-gram weight, then multiply by 100.
How to Calculate Seed Rate?
The following example problems outline how to calculate Seed Rate.
Example Problem #1:
- First, determine the target plant population (p/m^2).
- The target plant population (p/m^2) is given as: 30.
- Next, determine the TGW (thousand gram weight) (g).
- The TGW (thousand gram weight) (g) is provided as: 60.
- Finally, calculate the Seed Rate using the equation above:
SER = TPP * TWG * 100
The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.
SER = 30 * 60 * 100 = 180,000 (kg/ha)
Example Problem #2:
For this problem, the variables required are provided below:
target plant population (p/m^2) = 50
TGW (thousand gram weight) (g) = 100
Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator..
SER = TPP * TWG * 100 = ?
