Enter the total heat removed by the system and the latent heat contained in the steam into the calculator to determine the steam condensation.

Steam Condensation Formula

The following equation is used to calculate the Steam Condensation.

SC = HR / LH
  • Where SC is the steam condensation (lb/hr)
  • HR is the heat removed from the system (BTU/hr)
  • LH is the latent heat of steam (btu/lb)

To calculate the steam condensation amount, divide the heat removed from the steam by the latent heat of the steam.

What is Steam Condensation?

Definition:

Steam condensation is the process of water transforming from it’s gaseous form of steam into it’s liquid for of water due to a decrease in temperature.

How to Calculate Steam Condensation?

Example Problem:

The following example outlines the steps and information needed to calculate Steam Condensation.

First, determine the total amount of heat removed from the system. In this example, the total heat removed it 50,000 BTU/hr.

Next, determine the latent heat of the steam. In this example, the latent heat of steam is 500 BTU/lb.

Finally, calculate the steam condensation rate using the formula above:

SC = HR / LH

SC = 50,000 / 500

SC = 100 lb/hr
