Stretch Film Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the total amount of stretch film needed to cover a package.
SFL = L*W*H/SFW
- Where SFL is the length in feet of stretch film needed
- L is the length of the package (ft)
- W is the width of the package (ft)
- H is the height of the package (ft)
- SFW is the width of the stretch film
To calculate the total footage of stretch film needed for a package, divide the volume of the package by the width of the stretch film.
What is stretch film?
Stretch film is a film of clear plastic that is most often used when wrapping packages for shipping.
How to calculate stretch film length?
Example Problem:
The following example outlines how to calculate footage of stretch film needed.
First, determine the length, width, and height of the package. In this example, these are measured to be as follows:
L = 5 ft
W = 3 ft
H = 4 ft.
Next, determine the width of the roll of stretch film. In this example, the roll is 1.5 feet wide.
Finally, calculate the footage of stretch film needed using the formula above:
SFL = L*W*H/SFW
SFL = 5*3*4/1.5
SFL = 40 ft
