How to Calculate Surface Energy?
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed in order to calculate the Surface Energy.
Example Problem #1:
- First, determine the surface tension force (N). In this example, the surface tension force (N) is measured to be 5.
- Next, determine the change in surface area (m^2). For this problem, the change in surface area (m^2) is calculated to be 4.
- Finally, calculate the Surface Energy using the formula above:
SE = Fst * dA
Inserting the values from above and solving the equation with the imputed values gives:
SE = 5 * 4 = 20 (N*m^2)
Example Problem #2:
Using the same process as example problem 1, we first define the needed variables outlined by the formula. In this case, the values are provide as:
surface tension force (N) = 6
change in surface area (m^2) = 4
Entering these values into the formula or calculator above gives us:
SE = 6* 4 = 24 (N*m^2)
