Enter the maximum zero fuel mass and the dry operating mass into the calculator to determine the maximum traffic load.

Traffic Load Formula

The following equation is used to calculate the Traffic Load.

TL = MZFM - DOM
  • Where TL is the traffic load (lbs,ton,etc)
  • MZFM is the maximum zero fuel weight of the aircraft (lbs,tons,etc)
  • DOM is the dry operating mass (lbs,tons,etc.)

To calculate traffic load, subtract the dry operating mass from the maximum zero fuel weight of the aircraft.

What is a Traffic Load?

Definition:

Traffic load is a measure of the total weight of all passengers, baggage, and cargo on an aircraft. This includes any non-revenue load.

How to Calculate Traffic Load?

Example Problem:

The following example outlines the steps and information needed to calculate Traffic Load.

First, determine the maximum zero fuel weight. In this example, the maximum zero fuel weight is 200,000 lbs.

Next, determine the dry operating mass. The dry operating mass of this airplane is found to be 125,000 lbs.

Finally, calculate the traffic load using the formula above:

TL = MZFM – DOM

TL = 200,000 – 125,000

TL = 75,000 lbs
