Transpiration Rate Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Transpiration Rate.

TR = H2O / DM

Variables:

  • TR is the Transpiration Rate (kg H2O:dry material)
  • H2O is the weight of H2O lost by transpiration (kg) 
  • DM is the weight of dry material produced 

To calculate the transpiration rate, divide the weight of H2O lost by transpiration by the weight of the dry material produced.
