WDV Rate Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the WDV Rate. 

WDV = [1 - (SV/WV)^{(1/n)}] *100
  • Where WDV is the WDV Rate (%)
  • SV is the scrap value ($) 
  • WV is the written down value ($) 
  • n is the useful life of asset (periods) 

How to Calculate WDV Rate?

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the WDV Rate.

Example Problem #1

  1. First, determine the scrap value ($).
    • The scrap value ($) is calculated to be : 3.
  2. Next, determine the written down value ($).
    • The written down value ($) is measured to be: 10.
  3. Next, determine the useful life of asset (periods).
    • The useful life of asset (periods) is found to be: 5.
  4. Finally, calculate the WDV Rate using the formula above: 

WDV = [1 – (SV/WV)^(1/n)] *100

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

WDV = [1 – (3/10)^(1/5) ]*100 = 21.399 (%)

Example Problem #2

The variables required for this problem are provided below:

scrap value ($) = 6

written down value ($) = 15
