Enter the resistances of 3 nodes in the Y network into the calculator to transform into the equivalent delta.

Y to Delta Formula

The following formula is used to transform a y network to a delta network.

R1 = Z/R4

R2 = Z/R5

R3 = Z/R6

Z = (R4*R5)+(R5*R6)+(R6*R4)

  • Where R4,R5, and R6 are the resistances in the Y network
  • R1,R2, and R3 are the resistances in the delta network
  • Z is the sum of all product pairs of the y network

To calculate the delta network from Y, divide the sum of all product pairs of the y network by the resistances in the y network to yield the delta network.

How to calculate delta from Y?

Example Problem:

The following example outlines how to transform a Y network of resistances to a delta network.

First, determine the resistance of the Y network. In this case, the resistance are found to be 10, 15, and 20 respectively.

Next, calculate the sum of all product pairs of the network. In this example, this would be

Z = (R4*R5)+(R5*R6)+(R6*R4)

Z = (10*15)+(15*20)+(20*10)

Z = 650

Finally, calculate the delta resistances using the formula above:

R1 = 650/10

R2 = 650/15

R3 = 650/20

R1 = 65

R2 =43.33

R3 = 32.5
