Enter the mass of the element (g/mol) and the mass of the compound (g/mol) into the Mass Ratio Calculator. The calculator will evaluate and display the Mass Ratio.

Mass Ratio Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Mass Ratio.

MAR = ME / MC *100
  • Where MAR is the Mass Ratio (%)
  • ME is the mass of the element (g/mol)
  • MC is the mass of the compound (g/mol)

To calculate a mass ratio, divide the mass of the specific element by the mass of the compound, then multiply by 100.

How to Calculate Mass Ratio?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Mass Ratio.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the mass of the element (g/mol).
    • The mass of the element (g/mol) is given as: 3.25.
  2. Next, determine the mass of the compound (g/mol).
    • The mass of the compound (g/mol) is provided as: 4.00.
  3. Finally, calculate the Mass Ratio using the equation above:

MAR = ME / MC *100

The values given above are inserted into the equation below and the solution is calculated:

MAR = 3.25 / 4 *100 = 81.25 (%)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

mass of the element (g/mol) = 6

mass of the compound (g/mol) = 7

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator above.

MAR = ME / MC *100 = ?
