Riprap Weight Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Riprap Weight. 

RW = RL * RW * RD/12 * 156.07

Variables:

  • RW is the Riprap Weight (lbs)
  • RL is the riprap length (ft) 
  • RW is the riprap width (ft) 
  • RD is the riprap depth (in) 

How to Calculate Riprap Weight?

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Riprap Weight.

Example Problem #1

  1. First, determine the riprap length (ft).
    • The riprap length (ft) is calculated to be : 10.
  2. Next, determine the riprap width (ft). 
    • The riprap width (ft) is measured to be: 10.
  3. Next, determine the riprap depth (in). 
    • The riprap depth (in) is found to be: 5.
  4. Finally, calculate the Riprap Weight using the formula above: 

RW = RL * RW * RD/12 * 156.07

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

RW = 10 * 10 * 5/12 * 156.07 = 6502 (lbs)

Example Problem #2

The variables required for this problem are provided below:

riprap length (ft) = 12

riprap width (ft) = 12

riprap depth (in) = 3
