Estimate prescription refill due and earliest request dates from your last fill date, days supply, and common 75%, 80%, or 85% policy presets.
Important: This tool provides estimates for informational purposes only and cannot determine insurance coverage or guarantee refill eligibility/dispensing quantity. Do not change how you take a medication based on this tool; confirm timing, quantity, and refill rules with your pharmacist/insurer and your prescriber (especially for controlled substances and medications with special dispensing rules).
Prescription Refill Date Formulas
Treat the fill or pick-up date as the first covered day:
The 75%, 80%, and 85% entries are planning presets only. Policies vary by plan, pharmacy, product, jurisdiction, fill-versus-pick-up basis, and clinical circumstances. A result never guarantees coverage or dispensing.
Controlled substances: Under current federal rules, Schedule II prescriptions cannot be refilled. Schedule III and IV prescriptions generally may be refilled no more than five times within six months after the prescription date; state law and plan or pharmacy rules may be stricter.
Example
For an August 1 fill with a 28-day supply, August 28 is the estimated last covered day and August 29 is the next-cycle date. At a 75% planning preset, ceil(28 × 0.75) = 21 days, so the threshold date is August 22.
