ABS Weight Formulas

The following formulas are used to calculate the weight of ABS in different shapes.

ABS Flat Sheet Weight Formula = L * W * T * d

ABS Round Bar Weight Formula = pi * D^2/4 * L * d

ABS Square Hollow Tube Weight Formula = [W^2-(W-2T)^2] * L * d

ABS Round Hollow Tube Weight Formula = pi * (R^2-r^2) * L * d

ABS Square Angle Weight Formula = (2*W*T – T^2) * L * d

ABS T bar Weight Formula = (W*T + (H-T)*T) * L * d

ABS C Channel Weight Formula = (2*W*T1 + (H + 2*T1)*T2) * L * d

Variables used in these equations:

  • L is the length
  • W is the width
  • H is the height (for T‑bar). For C channel, H is the inner height (clear opening between flanges).
  • d is the density
  • D is the diameter
  • T is the thickness
  • R is the outer radius
  • r is the inner radius
  • T1 is the channel flange thickness (thickness along the width)
  • T2 is the channel web thickness (thickness along the height)

The calculator converts all lengths to inches and density to lb/in³ internally. You can enter lengths in inches, millimeters, or centimeters, and density in lb/in³, g/cm³, or kg/m³.

What is the density of ABS?

A typical density of ABS is 0.03793366 lbs/in^3.
