Enter the number of test takers who scored lower than you and the total number of test takers into the calculator to determine the ACT percentile. This calculator can also evaluate any of the variables given the others are known.

Act Percentile Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the ACT percentile.

P = (S / T) * 100

Variables:

  • P is the percentile rank
  • S is the number of test takers who scored lower than you
  • T is the total number of test takers

To calculate the ACT percentile, divide the number of test takers who scored lower than you by the total number of test takers. Multiply the result by 100 to get the percentile rank.

What is an Act Percentile?

An ACT percentile is a metric used to compare a student’s ACT test score with the scores of other students who took the same test. It indicates the percentage of test takers that a student scored higher than. For example, if a student is in the 90th percentile, it means that they scored higher than 90% of the students who took the same test. This percentile is used by colleges and universities for admissions decisions and scholarship considerations.

How to Calculate Act Percentile?

The following steps outline how to calculate the ACT Percentile.

  1. First, determine the number of test takers who scored lower than you (S).
  2. Next, determine the total number of test takers (T).
  3. Next, use the formula P = (S / T) * 100 to calculate the percentile rank (P).
  4. Finally, calculate the ACT Percentile.
  5. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem :

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

number of test takers who scored lower than you (S) = 500

total number of test takers (T) = 1000
