Breach Level Index Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Breach Level Index (BLI). 

BLI = (N * D * S) / 1000

Variables:

  • BLI is the Breach Level Index
  • N is the number of records breached
  • D is the data sensitivity factor (scale of 1-10)
  • S is the source vulnerability factor (scale of 1-10)

To calculate the Breach Level Index, multiply the number of records breached by the data sensitivity factor, then multiply the result by the source vulnerability factor. Divide the final result by 1000 to get the Breach Level Index.
