About the Minecraft Stack & Storage Calculator
Quickly convert a Minecraft item count into full stacks, a final partial stack, occupied slots, inventory loads, and storage containers. This is useful for builders, miners, redstone planners, and anyone organizing chests or shulker boxes before a project.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the total item quantity you have or need.
- Select the item’s max stack size: 64, 16, or 1.
- Enter the number of usable inventory slots for trips, from 1 to 54.
- Choose the storage container type, such as a shulker box, single chest, or double chest.
- Read the total storage needed, stack breakdown, inventory loads, and final-container fill.
How it works
The calculator first divides the item quantity by the selected max stack size. The whole-number part is the number of full stacks, and any remainder becomes one partial stack.
Total slots used equals the number of full stacks plus one extra slot if there is a partial stack. Inventory loads are calculated by multiplying usable inventory slots by stack size, then rounding the required number of trips up to the next whole load.
For storage, each container’s capacity is its slot count multiplied by the selected stack size. The calculator divides the item quantity by that capacity and rounds up, so even one extra item beyond a container’s capacity requires another container. It assumes each slot holds one item type up to the selected stack size and does not account for durability, NBT data, bundles, or mixed storage.
Example calculation
If you enter 1,728 items, choose a stack size of 64, use 36 inventory slots, and select a shulker box with 27 slots: 1,728 ÷ 64 = 27 full stacks with no partial stack. That uses 27 slots, takes 1 inventory load because 36 slots can carry up to 2,304 items, and requires 1 shulker box because a shulker holds 27 stacks.
Frequently asked questions
How many items are in a Minecraft stack?
Most items stack to 64, but some stack to 16, and non-stackable items such as many tools or armor pieces stack to 1.
How many stacks fit in a shulker box?
A shulker box has 27 slots, so it fits 27 stacks of the selected item type.
How many stacks fit in a double chest?
A double chest has 54 slots, so it fits 54 stacks of one item type when every slot is full.
Why does the calculator round containers up?
Minecraft storage cannot use a fraction of a chest or shulker, so any leftover items that do not fit require one additional container.
Does this work for mixed items?
No. The calculation assumes all items use the same max stack size and are stored as one item type, except for the final partial stack.
