How it works
The main conversion divides total hours by hours per work day. For example, if one work day is 7 hours, then every 7 hours counts as 1 work day.
Work weeks are then calculated by dividing the work days by the number of work days you enter per week. Approximate work years are calculated by dividing work weeks by 52.
The calculator also shows whole days plus any remaining hours by taking the full number of complete work days and the leftover hours. It assumes your work day and work week are constant, and it uses 52 weeks for each approximate work year.
Example calculation
Using the default values, 51,000 total hours ÷ 7 hours per day = 7,285.71 work days. With a 5-day work week, 7,285.71 ÷ 5 = 1,457.14 work weeks, and 1,457.14 ÷ 52 = about 28.02 work years. As whole days plus remainder, that is 7,285 days + 5 hours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hours to work days?
Divide the total hours by the number of hours in one work day. For an 8-hour day, 80 hours equals 10 work days.
What should I enter for hours per work day?
Enter the length of your normal workday, such as 7, 7.5, 8, or 10 hours. The calculator treats that value as one full work day.
How are work weeks calculated?
Work weeks are calculated by dividing the total work days by the number of days you work per week.
Does the calculator account for holidays or vacation?
No. It uses only the hours per day and days per week you enter, and approximate work years are based on 52 weeks.
Can I use decimal inputs?
Yes. You can enter decimal values such as 37.5 total hours, 7.5 hours per day, or 4.5 work days per week, as long as the work days per week value is greater than 0 and not more than 7.
