Use the basic formula below when you enter body weight and time spent lying down.
C = BW * T * 0.476
If you use Advanced mode, the formula is Calories Burned = Calories per Hour × Time.
Variables:
- C = calories burned (kcal)
- BW = body weight (lb)
- T = time lying down (hours)
To calculate calories burned lying down, multiply your body weight by your time lying down and by 0.476.

Hourly calorie burn while lying down rises mainly with body weight. Every additional 25 lb adds about 12 calories per hour.

- Enter the number of hours you spent lying down.
- Multiply body weight × hours × 0.476 to get calories burned.
If you already know your calories burned per hour, use the Advanced tab and multiply that hourly value by your time lying down.
Example
A person who weighs 180 lb and lies down for 8 hours would burn:
C = 180 * 8 * 0.476 = 685.44
That equals 685.44 calories burned.
