Enter any two of the following into the calculator to determine the third: concrete yield (volume produced), total batch weight of materials, and the unit weight (density) of the fresh concrete. This calculator can also evaluate any of the variables given the others are known.

Concrete Yield Formula
The following formula is used to calculate concrete yield (the batch volume of concrete produced).
Y = W / D
Variables:
- Y is the concrete yield (a volume, such as ft³, yd³, or m³)
- W is the total weight of all materials in the batch (lb or kg)
- D is the unit weight (density) of the fresh concrete (lb/ft³ or kg/m³)
To calculate the concrete yield, divide the total batch weight (W) by the unit weight (density) of the fresh concrete (D). This gives yield in volume units consistent with the density used (for example, lb divided by lb/ft³ gives ft³). Convert units as needed (1 yd³ = 27 ft³; 1 m³ ≈ 35.3147 ft³).
What is a Concrete Yield?
Concrete yield is the volume of concrete produced by a batch. It is commonly calculated by dividing the total batch weight of all materials by the measured unit weight (density) of the fresh concrete. The yield is usually expressed in cubic yards, cubic feet, or cubic meters. It is an important measure as it helps in checking batching accuracy and estimating material usage and cost.
How to Calculate Concrete Yield?
The following steps outline how to calculate the Concrete Yield.
- Determine the total batch weight of all materials (W) in pounds or kilograms.
- Determine the measured unit weight (density) of the fresh concrete (D) in lb/ft³ or kg/m³.
- Use the formula Y = W / D to calculate the concrete yield (Y).
- Convert the result to your desired volume unit if needed (for example, ft³ to yd³ by dividing by 27).
- After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
total batch weight of all materials (W) = 40,500 pounds
unit weight (density) of fresh concrete (D) = 150 lb/ft³
concrete yield (Y) = W / D = 40,500 / 150 = 270 ft³ = 10 yd³
