FR = RN / (PN/100)
  • Where FR is the Fertilizer Rate (lbs of fertilizer)
  • RN is the rate of desired nutrient (pounds of nutrient) 
  • PN is the percentage of nutrient in the fertilizer 

How to Calculate Fertilizer Rate?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Fertilizer Rate.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the rate of desired nutrient (pounds of nutrient).
    • The rate of desired nutrient (pounds of nutrient) is given as: 50.
  2. Next, determine the percentage of nutrient in the fertilizer.
    • The percentage of nutrient in the fertilizer is provided as: 60.
  3. Finally, calculate the Fertilizer Rate using the equation above: 

FR = RN / (PN/100)

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

FR = 50 / (60/100) = 83.33 (lbs of fertilizer)

Example Problem #2: 

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:
