Enter the distance you plan to travel and your vehicle’s fuel efficiency into the calculator to determine the fuel factor. The fuel factor is the total gallons of fuel you will need for the trip.

Fuel Factor Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the fuel factor.

FF = D / FE

Variables:

  • FF is the fuel factor (gallons)
  • D is the distance to be traveled (miles)
  • FE is the fuel efficiency of the vehicle (miles per gallon)

To calculate the fuel factor, divide the distance to be traveled by the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.

What is a Fuel Factor?

Fuel factor is a measure of the amount of fuel required to travel a certain distance. It is a useful metric for trip planning, budgeting for fuel costs, and assessing the impact of a journey on fuel consumption. The fuel factor is directly influenced by the fuel efficiency of the vehicle and the total distance of the trip.

How to Calculate Fuel Factor?

The following steps outline how to calculate the Fuel Factor.

  1. First, determine the distance to be traveled (D) in miles.
  2. Next, determine the fuel efficiency of the vehicle (FE) in miles per gallon.
  3. Next, gather the formula from above = FF = D / FE.
  4. Finally, calculate the Fuel Factor (FF) in gallons.
  5. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem :

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

distance to be traveled (D) = 300 miles

fuel efficiency of the vehicle (FE) = 25 miles per gallon
