Calculate seconds per impression from impressions per minute, or derive IPM from count and time and convert inches per minute to inches per second.

Ipm To Seconds Calculator

Enter IPM to get seconds per impression, or use count and time to derive IPM first.

IPM to Seconds Formula

The calculator converts a per-minute rate (or a related quantity) into seconds. It runs three modes.

seconds_per_impression = 60 / IPM
IPM = impressions / minutes
inches_per_second = inches_per_minute / 60
  • IPM: impressions per minute (or items, cycles, units per minute)
  • seconds_per_impression: time to complete one impression
  • impressions: total count observed
  • minutes: elapsed time, converted to minutes
  • inches_per_minute: linear feed speed
  • inches_per_second: same speed expressed per second

IPM to seconds: Enter a rate in per-second, per-minute, or per-hour units. The calculator normalizes to IPM, then divides 60 by it to get seconds per impression.

Count + time: Enter total impressions and elapsed time. The calculator computes IPM first, then seconds per impression.

In/min speed: Treats IPM as inches per minute and converts to inches per second, meters per second, and feet per minute.

Examples and FAQ

Example 1. An ad slot serves 240 impressions per minute. Seconds per impression = 60 / 240 = 0.25 sec. In one hour the slot serves 240 × 60 = 14,400 impressions.

Example 2. A machine completes 500 cycles in 4 minutes. IPM = 500 / 4 = 125. Seconds per cycle = 60 / 125 = 0.48 sec.

Does IPM mean impressions or inches? Both. Use the first or second tab when IPM means impressions per minute. Use the third tab when IPM means inches per minute on a CNC, plotter, or feed system.

How do I convert per-hour to seconds each? Divide 3600 by the per-hour rate. The calculator does this automatically when you pick "per hour" in the rate unit dropdown.

What if my time is in seconds, not minutes? In the count + time tab, switch the time unit to seconds. The math stays the same: total seconds divided by count gives seconds per item.

Why does a small IPM give a large seconds value? Seconds per item and IPM are reciprocals scaled by 60. A rate of 0.5 IPM means one item every 120 seconds.
