The following formula is used to convert kilograms to GSM.

GSM = (Weight (kg) × 1000) / Area (m²)

Variables:

  • GSM is the weight in grams per square meter.
  • Weight is the weight of the material in kilograms.

What is GSM?

GSM stands for grams per square meter and is a metric measurement of the weight of paper or fabric. It represents mass per unit area. A higher GSM means more mass over the same area; thickness also depends on density, construction and compression. GSM alone does not establish material quality or strength.

How to Calculate GSM?
