Liquid Percentage Formula
The liquid percentage is the liquid volume divided by the total volume, multiplied by 100.
P = (LV / TV) * 100
If you know the percentage and total volume, use:
LV = (P / 100) * TV
If you know the liquid volume and percentage, use:
TV = LV / (P / 100)
- P = percentage of liquid
- LV = liquid volume
- TV = total volume
Liquid volume and total volume must use the same unit before applying the formula. This calculator converts liters to milliliters internally when needed. Total volume cannot be zero. Percentage cannot be zero when solving for total volume.
Common Liquid Volume Conversions
Use these conversions when checking your inputs or comparing results.
| Unit | Equivalent |
|---|---|
| 1 milliliter | 1 mL |
| 1 liter | 1,000 mL |
| 0.5 liter | 500 mL |
| 0.25 liter | 250 mL |
Liquid Percentage Examples
| Liquid Volume | Total Volume | Liquid Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| 25 mL | 100 mL | 25% |
| 50 mL | 200 mL | 25% |
| 250 mL | 1 L | 25% |
| 300 mL | 1 L | 30% |
How to Check Your Result
Make sure the liquid volume is part of the total volume, not added separately after the calculation. For example, if 200 mL of a liquid is contained in a 1 L mixture, the percentage is 200 divided by 1,000, multiplied by 100. The result is 20%.
