Enter the mechanical work done (J) and the time (s) into the calculator to determine the Mechanical Power.

Mechanical Power Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the Mechanical Power.

MP = MW / T
  • Where MP is the Mechanical Power (watts)
  • MW is the mechanical work done (J)
  • T is the time (s)

To calculate mechanical power, divide the mechanical work by the time.

How to Calculate Mechanical Power?

The following two example problems outline how to calculate the Mechanical Power.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the mechanical work done (J). In this example, the mechanical work done (J) is measured to be 90.
  2. Next, determine the time (s). For this problem, the time (s) is calculated to be 3.
  3. Finally, calculate the Mechanical Power using the formula above:

MP = MW / T

Inserting the values from above and solving the equation with the imputed values gives:

MP = 90 / 3 = 30 (watts)

Example Problem #2:

Using the same process as example problem 1, we first define the variables outlined by the formula. In this case, the values are:

mechanical work done (J) = 70

time (s) = 35

Entering these values into the formula or calculator above gives us::

MP = 70 / 35 = 2 (watts)
