Enter any two of the three values (total pallets, pallets per truck, and trucks required) to calculate the third. You can also estimate pallets per truck by trailer dimensions (Pallet Fit Estimator tab) or by payload weight (Weight Capacity tab).

Pallets Per Truck Formula

The following formulas are used to relate total pallets, pallets per truck, and trucks:

\begin{aligned}
PPT &= \frac{T}{N}\\
N &= \left\lceil \frac{T}{PPT} \right\rceil\\
T &= PPT \cdot N
\end{aligned}

Variables:

  • PPT is the number of pallets per truck
  • T is the total number of pallets
  • N is the number of trucks (available or required)

To calculate the (average/planned) number of pallets per truck, divide the total number of pallets by the number of trucks. To calculate the number of trucks required when you know a truck’s pallet capacity, divide the total pallets by pallets per truck and round up to the next whole truck.

What is Pallets Per Truck?

Pallets per truck refers to how many pallets are loaded on each truck. Depending on context, it can mean either (1) the truck’s maximum pallet capacity (limited by interior dimensions and/or allowable weight) or (2) the average pallets per truck for a shipment (total pallets divided by the number of trucks used). For example, a standard 53-foot dry van typically accommodates 26 standard 48”x40” pallets arranged in two rows of 13 in a common loading pattern; depending on pallet orientation, clearances, loading method, and weight limits, the usable count may be different.

How to Calculate Pallets Per Truck?

The following steps outline how to calculate the Pallets Per Truck.

  1. First, determine the total number of pallets.
  2. Next, determine the number of trucks available.
  3. Next, gather the formula from above = PPT = Total Pallets / Number of Trucks.
  4. Finally, calculate the Pallets Per Truck.
  5. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem:

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

Total number of pallets = 150

Number of trucks available = 5

PPT = 150 / 5 = 30 pallets per truck
