Parenting Schedule Formula
The calculator uses simple day totals. Enter any two values to calculate the missing value.
Total\ Days = Days\ with\ Parent\ A + Days\ with\ Parent\ B
Days\ with\ Parent\ A = Total\ Days - Days\ with\ Parent\ B
Days\ with\ Parent\ B = Total\ Days - Days\ with\ Parent\ A
- Total Days is the full length of the schedule period.
- Days with Parent A is the number of days assigned to Parent A.
- Days with Parent B is the number of days assigned to Parent B.
Use the same time period for all entries. For example, do not mix monthly days with yearly days. If you use overnights instead of calendar days, keep that method consistent for both parents.
Useful Parenting Schedule Tables
Common schedule periods:
| Period | Typical Total Days | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 1 week | 7 | Simple weekly rotation |
| 2 weeks | 14 | Alternating weekend or 2-week plans |
| 1 month | 28 to 31 | Monthly planning |
| 1 year | 365 or 366 | Annual parenting time estimate |
Common splits based on a 14-day period:
| Parent A Days | Parent B Days | Approximate Split |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 7 | 50% / 50% |
| 8 | 6 | 57% / 43% |
| 9 | 5 | 64% / 36% |
| 10 | 4 | 71% / 29% |
Example
If the total schedule period is 14 days and Parent A has 9 days, Parent B has 5 days.
14 - 9 = 5
If you need a parenting time percentage, divide each parent’s days by the total days, then multiply by 100.
