Propeller Efficiency Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the Propeller Efficiency.
Eprop = PP / AP * 100
- Where Eprop is the Propeller Efficiency (%)
- PP is the power produced by the propeller
- AP is the applied power
How to Calculate Propeller Efficiency?
The following two example problems outline how to calculate the Propeller Efficiency.
Example Problem #1:
- First, determine the power produced by propeller. In this example, the power produced by propeller is given as 45.
- Next, determine the applied power. For this problem, the applied power is given as 80.
- Finally, calculate the Propeller Efficiency using the equation above:
Eprop = PP / AP * 100
Inserting the values from above and solving the equation:
Eprop = 45 / 80 * 100 = 56.25 (%)
Example Problem #2:
Using the same process as above, first define the variables required by the formula. In this case, these values are:
power produced by propeller = 83
applied power = 105
Entering these values yields:
Eprop = 83/105 * 100 = 79.04 (%)
