Enter the PTO per year and total working days in a year, and total working days until end of year into the calculator to determine the prorated PTO.

Prorated Pto Formula

The following formula is used to calculate the prorated PTO (Paid Time Off).

Prorated PTO = (PTO per year / Total working days in a year) * Total working days until end of year

Variables:

  • Prorated PTO is the calculated PTO for the remaining part of the year (days)
  • PTO per year is the total PTO given in a year (days)
  • Total working days in a year is the total number of working days in a year (days)
  • Total working days until end of year is the total number of working days left until the end of the year (days)

To calculate the prorated PTO, divide the total PTO given in a year by the total number of working days in a year. Then, multiply the result by the total number of working days left until the end of the year.

What is a Prorated Pto?

Prorated PTO (Paid Time Off) is a method of calculating the amount of paid time off an employee is entitled to, based on the proportion of the year they have worked. This is commonly used for employees who start or leave a job partway through the year, or for part-time employees. The total annual PTO is divided by the number of workdays in the year to determine the amount of PTO earned per day, and then multiplied by the number of days the employee has worked or is expected to work.

How to Calculate Prorated Pto?

The following steps outline how to calculate the Prorated PTO.

  1. First, determine the PTO per year (days).
  2. Next, determine the total working days in a year (days).
  3. Next, determine the total working days until the end of the year (days).
  4. Next, gather the formula from above = Prorated PTO = (PTO per year / Total working days in a year) * Total working days until end of year.
  5. Finally, calculate the Prorated PTO.
  6. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem :

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

PTO per year (days) = 20

Total working days in a year (days) = 250

Total working days until end of year (days) = 100
