Score Differential Formula
The following formula is used to calculate the score differential in a game.
Variables:
- SD is the score differential
- TS is the team's score
- OS is the opponent's score
To calculate the score differential, subtract the opponent's score from the team's score. The result is the score differential.
What is a Score Differential?
A score differential is a statistical measure used in sports to determine the difference between the points scored by a team and the points scored against them. It is calculated by subtracting the total points scored against a team from the total points they have scored. This metric is often used to evaluate a team's performance and dominance over their opponents. A positive score differential indicates that a team scores more than it allows, while a negative score differential suggests the opposite.
How to Calculate Score Differential?
For golf, choose Golf differential and enter the adjusted gross score, ratings for the played holes, and PCC. For game scores, choose Game score / point differential and select the two known quantities. The following steps explain the team-minus-opponent calculation.
- First, determine the team's score (TS).
- Next, determine the opponent's score (OS).
- Next, gather the formula from above = SD = (TS - OS).
- Finally, calculate the Score Differential.
- After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
