Point Differential Formula and Method
Raw margin in each game = points scored − points allowed
Enter two equal-length score lists in matching game order. A positive game margin means your side scored more; a negative margin means the opponent did. The raw total adds the margins, while the raw average divides that total by the number of games.

Interpreting the Result
The optional cap limits each positive or negative margin before the credited total is added. Applying a cap to the final season total is a different calculation and can give a different answer. This symmetric cap is an entered tiebreak rule, not a universal rule across sports or tournaments.

Assumptions and Common Input Errors
Raw totals and capped tiebreak totals are reported separately. Use credited records rather than mixing estimates with final totals. A blank field is not treated as zero; enter zero explicitly when it is a valid observation.
