What Is Tabata?

Tabata is a short, hard interval workout built around repeated bursts of work and rest. The classic format is 20 seconds of hard effort followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times for a total of 4 minutes.

  • 1 standard round = 8 work intervals
  • Work time per round = 2 minutes 40 seconds
  • Rest time per round = 1 minute 20 seconds
  • 3 rounds = 12 minutes total
  • 5 rounds = 20 minutes total
