Weeks Alive Formula

Weeks = (Today - BirthDate) / 7 days

When calculating from age instead of a birth date, the calculator uses:

Weeks = Years * 52.1775   |   Months * 4.34813   |   Days / 7
  • Today — current date in your local time zone
  • BirthDate — the date you were born
  • 52.1775 — average weeks per year, accounting for leap years (365.25 / 7)
  • 4.34813 — average weeks per month (52.1775 / 12)

The birth-date mode gives an exact count down to the current moment. The age mode gives an estimate because partial years and leap-day timing are smoothed out by the 52.1775 average.

Example and FAQ

Example: You were born on March 14, 1990. By March 14, 2024, exactly 34 years have passed. That is 34 × 52.1775 ≈ 1,774 weeks alive. Add any extra days since your last birthday by dividing by 7.

Why 52.1775 and not 52? A calendar year is 365.25 days on average once you include leap years. Dividing by 7 gives 52.1775, which is more accurate over multiple years.

Why does the result change by the day? Birth-date mode uses the current timestamp, so the count ticks up every 7 days. Refresh the calculation to see the latest figure.

Where does the 4,174-week reference come from? It is 80 years multiplied by 52.1775. Eighty years approximates global average life expectancy in developed countries and is the figure popularized by Oliver Burkeman's book "Four Thousand Weeks."

Is the age-based estimate accurate? It is within a few weeks for most inputs. For exact counts, use the birth-date tab.
