Convert body fat percentage to pounds or kilograms of fat and lean mass, or solve for body weight or body fat percentage from known values.
Body Fat and Lean Mass Formula
The calculator derives fat mass from body weight and body-fat percentage, then subtracts fat mass from body weight to estimate lean mass (also called fat-free mass in many general-use contexts).
Variables:
- FM is fat mass in the selected unit
- LM is lean mass in the selected unit
- BW is total body weight in the selected unit
- BF% is the body fat percentage
To calculate fat mass, multiply total body weight by the body fat percentage and divide by 100. Subtract that fat mass from body weight to get lean mass. The same formulas work with pounds or kilograms when one unit is used consistently.

What is a Body Fat Percentage To Pounds?
Body fat percentage to pounds is a calculation that determines the amount of fat you carry in relation to your total body weight. It is a measure used to assess your fitness level and health risk related to body fat. For instance, if you weigh 150 pounds and have a body fat percentage of 20%, it means that 30 pounds of your total body weight is fat. This calculation is important as it helps you understand your body composition better, allowing you to set realistic fitness goals and monitor your progress.
How to Calculate Body Fat Percentage To Pounds?
The following steps outline how to calculate the Body Fat Percentage To Pounds.
- First, determine the body fat percentage (BF%).
- Next, determine the total body weight (BW) in pounds.
- Next, gather the formula from above = BF = (BW * BF%) / 100.
- Finally, calculate the Body Fat Percentage To Pounds.
- After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.
Example Problem :
Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.
