Enter your body weight and duration to calculate your calories burned while breathing. A 154-lb person burns about 1.2 calories per minute while breathing at a normal resting pace, or about 73 calories per hour.

Breathing Calories Formula
The calculator uses body weight, time, and a breathing factor:
C = W \times T \times F
Variables:
- C = calories burned
- W = body weight in kilograms
- T = duration in minutes
- F = breathing factor
Basic mode uses F = 0.0175. Advanced mode uses the following breathing factors:
- Slow controlled = 0.0158
- Normal resting = 0.0175
- Deep breathing = 0.0210
- Forceful breathwork = 0.0263
If your weight is in pounds, convert it first: kg = lb × 0.4536.
What Changes Breathing Calorie Burn?
- Body weight: heavier body weight increases calories burned per minute.
- Duration: doubling the time doubles the calories burned.
- Breathing style: slow controlled breathing burns less per minute than deep or forceful breathwork.
Breathing Calories by Weight
| Body Weight | 30 Minutes | 60 Minutes | Calories per Minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 lb | 28.6 kcal | 57.2 kcal | 1.0 kcal/min |
| 154 lb | 36.7 kcal | 73.3 kcal | 1.2 kcal/min |
| 180 lb | 42.9 kcal | 85.7 kcal | 1.4 kcal/min |
| 200 lb | 47.6 kcal | 95.3 kcal | 1.6 kcal/min |
How to Calculate Calories Burned Breathing
- Enter your body weight.
- Enter your duration in minutes.
- Use basic mode for normal resting breathing, or choose a breathing style in advanced mode.
- Multiply body weight in kilograms by minutes and the breathing factor.
Example Problem:
Body weight = 154 lb = 69.9 kg
Duration = 30 minutes
Breathing factor = 0.0175
Calories burned = 69.9 × 30 × 0.0175 = 36.7 kcal
