Enter the revenue per visit and the visits per 1,000 enrollees into the Capitation Rate Calculator. The calculator will evaluate the Capitation Rate.

Capitation Rate Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Capitation Rate.

CR = RPV * V1000 /12
  • Where CR is the Capitation Rate (per member per month capitation rate)
  • RPV is the revenue per visit
  • V1000 is the visits per 1,000 enrollees

To calculate the capitation rate, multiply the revenue per visit by the visits per 1000 enrollees, then divide by 12.

How to Calculate Capitation Rate?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Capitation Rate.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the revenue per visit.
    • The revenue per visit is given as: 30.
  2. Next, determine the visits per 1,000 enrollees.
    • The visits per 1,000 enrollees is provided as: 500.
  3. Finally, calculate the Capitation Rate using the equation above:

CR = RPV * V1000 /12

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

CR = 30 * 500 /12 = 1250 (per member per month capitation rate)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

revenue per visit = 10

visits per 1,000 enrollees = 300

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator..

CR = RPV * V1000 /12 = ?
