CPM Media Invoice Reconciliation Formula
For a net CPM, calculate the line’s net media amount as N = P × I ÷ 1,000. For a gross CPM with an agreed gross-based commission, use N = P × I ÷ 1,000 × (1 − c ÷ 100).
- P: agreed CPM, in USD per 1,000 billable impressions.
- I: billable impression count for that invoice line.
- c: agreed commission percentage deducted from the gross media amount; used only for gross CPM.
- N: calculated net media amount in USD.
Each calculated line is rounded to the nearest cent, with half-cent ties rounded up. The calculator sums those rounded lines. A line’s difference is its invoiced net media amount minus its calculated amount. The combined difference is the sum of these signed line differences.
What the Comparison Shows
A positive difference means the entered invoice amount is higher than the calculation; a negative difference means it is lower. The line table, nonmatching-line count, and total absolute difference reveal differences that can cancel out in the combined total.
Use the same period, currency, and net media scope throughout. Enter the billable count and rate basis specified in your agreement. If an agreed net CPM is supplied, select Net rather than deducting commission again or reconstructing it from a rounded gross rate.
This comparison excludes taxes, separate fees, additional discounts, credits, and makegoods. Its rounding convention may differ from your agreement. A difference identifies something to check; it does not establish a billing error or an amount owed.
How to Use the Calculator
- Select the number of invoice lines to compare.
- For each line, enter its agreed CPM, billable impressions, and gross or net rate basis. Enter the agreed commission only for a gross CPM.
- Enter that line’s invoiced net media amount, excluding taxes and separate fees.
- Select Calculate, then check both the combined result and individual line differences.
Worked Example
Line 1 has a $12 gross CPM, 125,000 billable impressions, and a 20% commission. Its calculated net amount is 12 × 125,000 ÷ 1,000 × 0.80 = $1,200.00. An invoiced net amount of $1,210.00 produces a +$10.00 difference.
Line 2 has an $8 net CPM and 75,000 billable impressions: 8 × 75,000 ÷ 1,000 = $600.00. An invoice line of $595.00 produces a −$5.00 difference. Together, calculated net media is $1,800.00, invoiced net media is $1,805.00, and the combined difference is +$5.00. Two lines differ, with a total absolute difference of $15.00.
FAQ
Does a zero combined difference mean every line matches?
No. A +$10.00 difference and a −$10.00 difference cancel out. Check the line table and total absolute difference.
Which impression count should I enter?
Use the billable count established for the line under your agreement. This tool does not decide which ad server, viewability rule, or traffic filter governs billing.
Is a 15% commission assumed?
No. Gross CPM lines require the commission you enter. Net CPM lines receive no additional commission deduction.
Why might rounding produce a difference?
Two unrounded $0.005 net lines become $0.01 each here, totaling $0.02. Rounding their combined unrounded amount once gives $0.01. Check your agreement’s rate precision and rounding method.
