Enter the top spring rate (N/m) and the bottom spring rate (N/m) into the Dual Spring Rate Calculator. The calculator will evaluate the Dual Spring Rate.

Dual Spring Rate Formula

The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Dual Spring Rate.

DSR = (T*B) / (T+B)
  • Where DSR is the Dual Spring Rate (N/m)
  • T is the top spring rate (N/m)
  • B is the bottom spring rate (N/m)

To calculate the duel spring rate, divide the product of the top spring rate and bottom spring rate by the sum of these two rates.

How to Calculate Dual Spring Rate?

The following example problems outline how to calculate Dual Spring Rate.

Example Problem #1:

  1. First, determine the top spring rate (N/m).
    • The top spring rate (N/m) is given as: 5.
  2. Next, determine the bottom spring rate (N/m).
    • The bottom spring rate (N/m) is provided as: 10.
  3. Finally, calculate the Dual Spring Rate using the equation above:

DSR = (T*B) / (T+B)

The values provided above are inserted into the equation below and computed.

DSR = (5*10) / (5+10) = 3.33 (N/m)

Example Problem #2:

For this problem, the variables required are provided below:

top spring rate (N/m) = 6

bottom spring rate (N/m) = 8

Test your knowledge using the equation and check your answer with the calculator..

DSR = (T*B) / (T+B) = ?
