Elliptical RPM to Miles Formula
The following formula estimates distance from cadence (RPM), an assumed distance per pedal revolution, and time. Because elliptical consoles use machine-specific scaling and the pedal path is curved, you should treat this as an estimate unless you calibrate the “distance per revolution” value for your specific machine.
M = (R * S * T) / C
Variables:
- M is the distance traveled (miles)
- R is the cadence (revolutions per minute, RPM)
- S is the assumed distance per revolution (inches per revolution)
- T is the time (minutes)
- C is the conversion factor (63,360 inches per mile)
To estimate the miles, multiply RPM by the distance per revolution and time (in minutes), then divide by 63,360.
