Fitness Age as a VO2 Reference Comparison
This corrected tool replaces the former implausible equation with directly measured NTNU Cardiac Exercise Research Group HUNT3 means. It compares an entered VO2 max with six sex-specific age-band averages and reports the closest reference band plus the difference from the user’s chronological-age band.
Formula and Method
The calculator selects the mean for the entered sex and age band, subtracts that mean from the entered VO2 max, then finds the smallest absolute difference across the six published means. It performs a table lookup and comparison rather than claiming a universal fitness-age equation.

How to Use the Result

Assumptions and Limitations
The closest reference band is not a biological age, diagnosis, prognosis, or individualized percentile. Reference means depend on the HUNT3 sample and test methods. Sex categories here follow the two groups reported by the source table, and the calculator does not infer physiology or identity beyond that published comparison.
