Enter your VO2 Max and actual age into the calculator to estimate your fitness age. This calculator provides an approximation of your fitness level compared to an average person of the same chronological age.

Fitness Age Formula

The formula used to estimate fitness age is based on the VO2 Max value and the actual age of an individual.

FA = AA - ((V - AAV) / 0.3)

Variables:

  • FA is the estimated fitness age (years)
  • AA is the actual age (years)
  • V is the VO2 Max (ml/kg/min)
  • AAV is the average VO2 Max for the actual age (ml/kg/min)

To estimate the fitness age, subtract the difference between the individual’s VO2 Max and the average VO2 Max for their age, divided by the rate of VO2 Max decline per year (0.3), from their actual age.

What is Fitness Age?

Fitness age is an estimate of your body’s physical age based on your cardiovascular endurance. It is a concept that reflects how well your body functions physically, compared to how well it should work given your age. A lower fitness age compared to your chronological age generally indicates better cardiovascular health and is associated with a lower risk of lifestyle-related diseases.

How to Calculate Fitness Age?

The following steps outline how to estimate the Fitness Age.

  1. First, determine your VO2 Max (V) in ml/kg/min.
  2. Next, determine your actual age (AA) in years.
  3. Next, gather the formula from above = FA = AA – ((V – AAV) / 0.3).
  4. Finally, calculate your estimated Fitness Age (FA) in years.
  5. After inserting the variables and calculating the result, check your answer with the calculator above.

Example Problem :

Use the following variables as an example problem to test your knowledge.

VO2 Max (V) = 40 ml/kg/min

Actual Age (AA) = 30 years
