The hotel tip budget is the sum of the tips planned for each service used during the stay.
Housekeeping:
Housekeeping Tip = Rooms * Nights * Rate Per Room Per Night
Other service components:
Bellhop Tip = Bags * Tip Per Bag Valet Tip = Retrievals * Tip Per Retrieval Room-Service Tip = Room-Service Subtotal * Tip Rate

Total Tips = Housekeeping + Bellhop + Valet + Room Service + Concierge and Other
Variables:
- Rooms and Nights determine the number of room-nights
- Rate Per Room Per Night is the housekeeping amount left for one serviced room-night
- Bags and Retrievals are counts for bellhop and valet service
- Room-Service Subtotal is the amount used for the room-service percentage
- Concierge and Other is a flat amount for services not calculated separately
When solving for a housekeeping rate from a total budget, the calculator subtracts the other service tips and divides the remainder by the number of room-nights.

Example 1: Build a full hotel tip budget.
A four-night stay uses one room, a $5 housekeeping rate, four bags at $2 each, three valet retrievals at $5 each, $100 of room service at 20%, and $20 for other help.
The total is $20 + $8 + $15 + $20 + $20 = $83, or $20.75 per night.
Example 2: Solve for the housekeeping rate.
A guest has a $100 total tip budget for two rooms over three nights. Other planned tips total $40.
The remaining $60 covers six room-nights, so the housekeeping rate is $60 / 6 = $10 per room per night.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should housekeeping be tipped daily?
A daily amount can ensure the employee who services the room that day receives it. The calculator totals the plan using room-nights, but you can distribute the money during the stay however you prefer.
Do I tip room service when a service charge appears?
Review the bill carefully. A delivery fee or service charge may not be the same as a gratuity, while some bills include an explicit gratuity. Avoid counting the same charge twice.
Can I leave unused services at zero?
Yes. Enter zero for bellhop, valet, room service, concierge, or any other category you will not use. Only entered services contribute to the total.
