Human Age to Elf Age Formula
This calculator gives you two ways to turn a human age into an elf age. The default is the classic formula, which anchors a very young human at 100 elf years and then adds a fixed number of elf years for each human year:
E = (H - 1) * 5 + 100
To go from an elf age back to a human age with the classic method, rearrange the same equation:
H = (E - 100) / 5 + 1
The second method is proportional lifespan mapping. It places you at the same fraction of an elf life as you are of a human life, using the chosen race lifespan:
E = H * (L / 80)
H = E * (80 / L)
Variables:
- E is the elf age in years
- H is the human age in years
- L is the elf lifespan in years for the chosen race, such as 750 for a High Elf
- 80 is the baseline human lifespan the proportional method scales against, and you can change it under More options
Start by choosing what you want to find at the top. The default returns an elf age from a human age; switch the selector to enter an elf age and get the human age instead. The aging method menu picks the math: classic uses the fixed formula above and needs no lifespan, while proportional reveals an elf race menu that sets the lifespan L. Choosing Custom lets you type any lifespan for settings that are not listed. More options exposes the human baseline lifespan used by the proportional method and how many decimal places the results show. Every calculation lists the human age, the elf age, and the method used, and the proportional method also reports the share of a life lived and the matching life stage.
Human Age to Elf Age Conversion Chart
The first table uses the classic formula, E = (H – 1) * 5 + 100. Each extra human year adds five elf years, so the two ages move in a straight line.
| Human Age (years) | Elf Age (classic) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100 |
| 5 | 120 |
| 10 | 145 |
| 13 | 160 |
| 16 | 175 |
| 18 | 185 |
| 21 | 200 |
| 25 | 220 |
| 30 | 245 |
| 40 | 295 |
| 50 | 345 |
| 65 | 420 |
| 80 | 495 |
| 100 | 595 |
The second table shows the proportional method for a 30 year old human across the elf races in the calculator, along with the lifespan each race uses. A longer lifespan spreads the same 30 human years across more elf years.
| Elf Race | Lifespan (years) | Elf Age at Human 30 |
|---|---|---|
| High Elf | 750 | 281 |
| Wood Elf | 500 | 188 |
| Dark Elf / Drow | 700 | 263 |
| Sea Elf | 600 | 225 |
| Half-Elf | 180 | 68 |
| Eladrin | 800 | 300 |
Example Problems
Example 1: Convert a human age to an elf age with the classic formula.
You are 25 years old and want your elf age. Subtract 1, multiply by 5, then add 100:
E = (25 – 1) * 5 + 100 = 24 * 5 + 100 = 120 + 100 = 220 elf years.
Example 2: Convert a human age to an elf age with the proportional method.
You are 30 years old and want your age as a High Elf, whose lifespan is 750 years, using the standard 80 year human baseline:
E = 30 * (750 / 80) = 30 * 9.375 = 281 elf years. A 30 year old sits about 37.5 percent through an 80 year life, and 281 is the same 37.5 percent of 750, which the calculator labels a young adult.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you convert human age to elf age?
With the classic formula, subtract 1 from the human age, multiply by 5, and add 100. For a 25 year old that is (25 – 1) * 5 + 100 = 220 elf years. The proportional method instead multiplies the human age by the elf lifespan divided by 80, so the same person becomes 30 to a few hundred elf years depending on the race you pick.
How long do elves live?
Lifespans vary by setting. In common tabletop and fantasy references a High Elf lives around 750 years, an Eladrin around 800, Dark Elves and Sea Elves in the 600 to 700 range, Wood Elves about 500, and a Half-Elf roughly 180. In Tolkien lore elves are effectively immortal and are bound to the world rather than dying of old age, which is why proportional mapping treats their years as stretched across a much longer life.
What is 100 in elf years?
It depends on the direction and method. If 100 is a human age, the classic formula gives (100 – 1) * 5 + 100 = 595 elf years. If 100 is an elf age and you want the human equivalent, the classic inverse gives (100 – 100) / 5 + 1 = 1 human year, so a 100 year old elf is only just past infancy by elven standards. Set the solve-for selector to match which value you are starting from.
