Item Weight Formula
The following two example problems outline the steps and information needed to calculate the Item Weight.
IW = TW / I
Variables:
- IW is the average item weight in the selected mass unit
- TW is net contents weight, excluding tare / packaging, in the same mass unit as IW
- I is the total number of items
To calculate average item weight, subtract packaging from the measured gross weight, then divide net contents by the whole-number item count. The total mode adds tare; count mode divides net contents by a known item weight.
